Terms and Conditions

Who you're dealing with

Padler is operated by Bosman Data (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2020/584135/07, of 7 Langenhoven Street, Dan Pienaar, Bloemfontein, 9301, South Africa. You can reach us at hello@padler.co.za. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Bosman Data (Pty) Ltd, and "you" means the person using Padler.

These terms apply when you create a Padler account, register a team, or use padler.co.za and its region subdomains. If you don't agree with them, please don't use Padler.

What Padler does — and doesn't do

Padler runs a challenge ladder for padel and pickleball. It keeps your region's standings, lets teams challenge each other, records results and moves teams up and down the ladder according to your region's rules.

Padler does not book courts, does not take court fees, does not organise or supervise play, and is not a party to anything that happens on court. Where and when you play, and what you pay the venue, is between you, your opponents and the venue.

Your account and your team

You must be 18 or older to have a Padler account. You confirm this when you sign up. If we learn an account holder is under 18, we'll close the account — tell us at hello@padler.co.za if that applies to you or someone you know.

You need an account to play. Give us accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. You're responsible for what happens under it.

A team is two players, but only the captain has an account. We ask for as little about your partner as the ladder can work with: their first name and their rating — no surname, no contact details. The rating is needed because your team's starting position is the average of both. Please tell your partner their first name will appear on the ladder; if they'd rather it didn't, either of you can email us and we'll sort it out. How we handle this is set out in our Privacy Policy.

You act for the team: challenges you issue or accept, scores you submit and slots you agree bind both players.

An account belongs to one region. Ratings you enter must be honest.

What a team subscription costs

A team subscription is R39 per team per month, in South African rand, payable in advance. Billing starts when you register your team (or when a discount code's free months end, below), and recurs on the same date each month until it's cancelled. If you register a team and don't finish setting up its subscription within 48 hours, the team is frozen as described under "If a payment fails" until you do.

R39 is the full price — Bosman Data (Pty) Ltd is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added and we don't issue tax invoices. If we ever become VAT registered, we'll tell you before it changes what you pay.

Payments are processed by Payfast, a South African payment gateway. We never see or store your card details — see the "Payments" section of our Privacy Policy.

Teams already on a ladder before subscriptions started are free, and stay free. We won't begin charging an existing team without telling that team's captain in writing first.

If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you're free to cancel before it does.

Discount codes. A region may give out a code that makes a new team's subscription free for a set number of months. You enter it when you register your team. A code works once per captain, only while it has uses left, and can't be added to a team that's already registered or exchanged for money. No card is needed during the free months, and nothing is charged unless you set up a payment. To keep challenging after they end, the subscription is R39 per team per month; if you don't set it up, your team is frozen as described under "If a payment fails". Leaving the ladder ends the free months, and the code can't be used again.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time, by email to hello@padler.co.za or from your team's page where that's available. There's no minimum term and no cancellation penalty.

Cancelling stops future payments. Your team stays on the ladder until the end of the month you've already paid for, and leaves the active ladder after that. We don't refund the remainder of a month you've paid for, except in the cases set out in our Refund and Cancellation Policy.

If a payment fails

Cards expire and payments bounce, so a failed payment doesn't cost you your place. You get 14 days' grace from the failed payment, and we'll tell you it happened.

After that, the team is frozen: it stays on the ladder and keeps its position, but can't issue or accept challenges, and other teams can't challenge it, until the subscription is active again. We won't delete your team or your history because of an unpaid subscription.

Playing fair

Using Padler means:

  • Submitting scores honestly, and confirming or disputing them in good faith.
  • Turning up to matches you've agreed, and arranging times in good faith — your region's rules page explains how deadlines and strikes work.
  • Treating other players decently, in the app and on court.
  • Not interfering with the site, other people's accounts, or the ladder's integrity.

Your region's admin runs its ladder and settles disputes about results. We may suspend or remove an account or a team that breaks these terms, and we'll refund any unused paid-for period if we do so for a reason that isn't your fault.

Availability

We work to keep Padler running, but we can't promise it will never be unavailable. We may change how the ladder works, add or remove features, or take the service down for maintenance. If we ever discontinue Padler entirely, we'll give you reasonable notice and refund any period you've paid for beyond it.

Our responsibility to you

Padler is a scoreboard, not an insurer. To the extent the law allows, we're not responsible for injury, loss or damage arising out of playing, for court bookings or venue arrangements, or for disagreements between players. Where we are responsible for something, our total liability is limited to the subscription fees you've paid us in the 12 months before it happened.

Nothing here takes away rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other law that can't be excluded by agreement.

Changes to these terms

We'll post any change here and update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects you, we'll tell you before it takes effect. Carrying on using Padler after that means you accept the new version.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by South African law, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. If something's gone wrong, please email us first — most things are quicker to fix that way than through a formal complaint.
